The idea is to get your body burning fat instead of carbohydrates for energy. The first phase of the Atkins diet plan does lack proper nutrition and you would be advised to take a good vitamin and mineral supplement during this time.

Whichever diet plan you choose you will need a lot of willpower and support from others. Get together with a friend and start on a diet plan together. You can support each other and compare each others progress.

Set yourself long and short term goals during your diet and reward yourself when you have achieved a goal no matter how small. Buy yourself a new top or get your hair done. Keep a diary so that you can monitor your progress.
